Local News in Brief : High School Measles

An outbreak of measles has been reported in Los Angeles County high schools, with the most cases at one South Bay school, county Department of Health Services officials said Tuesday.
Since late November, there have been more than 35 cases of clinically diagnosed measles among students attending South High School in Torrance. And sporadic cases and small clusters of cases have also been reported in high schools in other areas, health officials said.
The department, in cooperation with the Torrance School District, is conducting an audit of student immunization records in middle and high schools in the community. Students who are not in compliance with measles immunization requirements may be excluded from school for two weeks following the last reported case, the department said.
Symptoms of the disease include rash, high fever, cough, red or watery eyes and a runny nose.
