Chinese Warned About Bad Forestry Practices

BEIJING — Half of China’s forestry administrations will have no trees left in 10 years if excessive logging and poor management continue unchecked, the official China Daily reported Monday.
The paper quoted Forestry Minister Gao Dezhan, who also told a weekend conference that 70% of the 131 forestry administrations could be treeless in the early part of the next century if the situation does not change.
He said the government will use foreign loans and technology and impose logging quotas to protect China’s forests, which cover 12.7% of the nation.
