Metzenbaum Will Vote to Confirm Kennedy

WASHINGTON — Sen. Howard M. Metzenbaum (D-Ohio), a leading Senate Judiciary Committee liberal, said Monday that he will vote for confirmation of conservative Judge Anthony M. Kennedy to the Supreme Court.

Metzenbaum said Kennedy had shown at his confirmation hearing last week that “he does not have an ideological agenda to remake the Constitution and he appears to accept fundamental constitutional values which the Supreme Court has long recognized.”
