Gorbachev and the Summit
I have been worried about the probabilities that our Congress would upset the summit solely to beat up on Reagan.
I’m not worried anymore. Ernest Conine in “The Republican Right Is Wrong” (Op-Ed Page, Dec. 8) did what he has done so many times. He clarified the situation. He warned the conservatives they were about to mess up their dinner. He said it in the way he’s always done things.
He used facts. He used them quietly. He gave the conservatives some ways to feel at ease.
They probably won’t recognize what is happening, but he gave a lot of people like me a chance to feel better.
Conine has been doing that for many years. I’m sure a lot of people have felt better for many years because of Conine.
