Queen Elizabeth II will break with tradition and denounce the Irish Republican Army’s campaign of violence in Northern Ireland in her annual Christmas Day message, British newspapers said. The queen has never spoken out against the IRA’s 18-year guerrilla war, and the monarch customarily avoids taking sides on political issues. Buckingham Palace would neither confirm nor deny reports on the contents of the queen’s message.
