A 22-year-old Huntington Beach man was shot early Saturday in the 2600 block of Florida Street after opening the door of his apartment to an unknown assailant, Huntington Beach police said.
The victim, identified by police as Michael Joseph Mercurio, was shot, a witness told police, by a man who began arguing with the victim shortly after Mercurio admitted the man to his apartment at 12:13 a.m.
Mercurio, who suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the neck, was in the intensive care unit of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.
Police are still seeking the assailant, who fled on foot.
