Weekend TV : A Good Time to Curl Up With a Funny Movie or a Christmas Special

Staying up late Saturday night with warm and funny movies from the last two decades might be the best antidote to the winter chill outside.

“Get Out Your Handkerchiefs,” a zany 1978 French film about the inability of men to understand women, kicks things off at 10 p.m. on Channel 28.

Bud Court and Ruth Gordon star in the 1972 cult classic “Harold and Maude” (10:30 p.m. on Channel 13), a film that explores the relationship between a teen-age boy and a 70-year-old woman who meet while attending the funeral of someone neither of them knows.

Woody Allen’s satirical tribute to Humphrey Bogart and “Casablanca,” “Play It Again Sam,” begins at 11:30 p.m. on Channel 2, scheduled against David Lean’s 1963 epic “Lawrence of Arabia.” Peter O’Toole gives one of his greatest performances in the latter, beginning at 11:45 p.m. on Channel 7.

The weekend before Christmas is also stuffed with special prime-time holiday extravaganzas, headlined by NBC’s “Bob Hope Christmas” with Brooke Shields, Morgan Fairchild and Tony Randall, tonight at 8 p.m. on Channels 4, 36, 39.

Barbara Mandrell hosts a Christmas special Sunday at 7 p.m. on Channel 9. And “Amen,” “Hotel,” “My Two Dads,” “Dolly,” “Married With Children,” “Buck James,” “Our House” and “Family Ties” (with Michael J. Fox dressed as Santa Claus) all serve up Christmas episodes at their regular times over the weekend.
