Jackson, Lynwood Top Morningside

Guard Trise Jackson scored a game-high 30 points Wednesday night to help Lynwood hand the Morningside girls basketball team its first loss of the season, 64-61, in the finals of the Morningside Tournament.
The victory avenged Lynwood’s loss to Morningside last week in the finals of the Artesia Tournament. Both teams are 9-1. Lynwood was ranked No. 1 in the CIF 4-A preseason rankings, while Morningside was ranked No. 2.
Forward Shaunda Greene paced Morningside with 23 points, while center Lisa Leslie added 19. The Lady Monarchs open play this weekend in the Tournament of Champions at Santa Barbara High.
Palos Verdes 49, Redondo 45--Palos Verdes tuned up for the prestigious Tournament of Champions by posting a non-league win at home behind a game-high 26 points from 6-4 junior center Heather Burge. Palos Verdes (6-3) opens the Tournament of Champions at Santa Barbara High on Saturday against Sarnia St. Patrick’s of Canada.
