Road Stays Tough for USIU at Cal

The United States International University men’s basketball team’s road problems continued Wednesday night in an 86-66 nonconference loss to California at Berkeley.
The Gulls (2-6) now have lost 89 of 90 road games against Division I opponents.
USIU took an 18-12 lead early in the first half, but Cal (2-2) reeled off 12 unanswered points to take the lead for good. Guard Keith Smith scored a career high 24 points for the Bears.
Cal added a 15-1 run in the second half and led by as many as 26 points. Cal forward Jim Beatie scored 18 points and Ryan Drew 13.
Russ Heicke scored 25 points for USIU, including three 3-pointers. Rade Milutinovic added 18, including four 3-pointers, for USIU, which returns home to meet Dartmouth of the Ivy League Saturday night at 7:30 at Golden Hall.
