The former girlfriend of a Carlsbad man was being held in his slaying, police reported.
Linda E. Ricchio, 27, of Oceanside, gave herself up shortly after the fatal shooting of Ronald Lewis Ruse, 28.
Carlsbad police found Ruse badly wounded Monday night after going to his apartment in the 2000 block of Jefferson Street in response to reports of shots being fired, a police spokeswoman said. Ruse, a mechanic for Toyota of Carlsbad, was pronounced dead at Palomar Hospital after being rushed there by Life Flight helicopter.
Ricchio was being held at the County Jail at Vista on suspicion of murder.
Oceanside police received a call from Ricchio, phoning from an Oceanside gas station, a short time after Carlsbad police had found Ruse. She told police she had just shot someone.
