‘Pornography and Police Power’

The Times editorial stated that one of the two “crucial responsibilities of government . . . is to protect, absolutely and without exception, children from exposure to questionable materials.”

With the proliferation of X-rated videocassettes there has been an increase in the number of children who view sexually explicit X-rated movies. The owner of an X-rated movie theater could face legal troubles if minors are allowed, even without his knowledge, to view such movies.

Perhaps those who rent X-rated movies should face prosecution if they purposely or inadvertently allow children to view the movies they have rented.
