BRASILIA, Brazil — A Hercules C-130 military transport plane with 29 people--six military crewmen and 23 citizens--aboard crashed into the Atlantic Ocean and search parties found no survivors, authorities said today.
The plane crashed overnight on its landing approach to the remote island of Fernando de Noronha 220 miles east of Brazil, officials said. The government news agency reported that the plane abruptly lost contact with the island’s control tower during its approach. “We have located some floating wreckage but . . . there is not a sign of a living soul,” Tania de Araujo, secretary to the island’s governor, said.
