Terrence Malick--absent from the screen for nine years, since writing and directing the acclaimed “Days of Heaven”--is coming back.
A rep confirms that he’ll script “Great Balls of Fire” for Orion. The Jerry Lee Lewis bio will reunite Dennis Quaid (who’ll star) and director Jim McBride, who recently teamed for “The Big Easy.”
Malick’s rep seemed relieved that he’s back at work (“The phone sure rings a lot for him”), but couldn’t say why he opted to return with this project (“I guess it’s just something he’s interested in”). She added that he’s just getting started on the script and that “he’ll probably do most of the writing from Europe.”
