British Airways said it will increase its cash offer for British Caledonian Airlines to $362 million ($200 million pounds), in response to a partial offer for the airline by Scandinavian Airlines System. British Caledonian and SAS announced that they had reached a friendly agreement in which SAS would purchase a major stake in British Caledonian for $214 million, but would limit its holding to 23.5% of the voting stock.
