Peter Fleming, longtime doubles partner of tennis star John McEnroe, announced he will become manager for McEnroe and try to help him regain his No. 1 world ranking.
The 32-year-old doubles specialist said he hoped to rid McEnroe of the “negative aspects” of his game and enable him to challenge the current No. 1 player, Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia.
Fleming said he planned to improve McEnroe’s fitness and that after that, McEnroe’s talent would take care of the rest.
“I’m going to try to get John back on the track,” Fleming said. “He’s out of balance at the moment, but I’m amazed at the amount of confidence he still has.”
