High School Basketball : Saker’s Basket Saves Unbeaten Grant, 62-61

Adi Saker sank a basket with time running out as Grant overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Chatsworth, 62-61, Wednesday night in a nonleague game at Chatsworth.
With 16 seconds remaining and the score tied, 60-60, Chatsworth’s David Waco made 1 of 2 free throws. Grant (3-0) came down the floor and missed a shot before Saker scored the winning basket. Chatsworth is 1-1.
North Hollywood 80, Monroe 50--Dana Jones blocked nine shots and scored 12 points coming off the bench to lead host North Hollywood to a nonleague win.
Leading, 36-24, at halftime, North Hollywood (2-1) outscored Monroe by 18 in the second half. Monroe is 0-3.
For the Huskies, Alan Breslaur scored 14 points and Duane Braxton had 8 points and 4 assists.
University 53, San Fernando 51--Senior guard Tory Stephens, who finished with a game-high 24 points, missed a 10-foot jump shot with three seconds left as San Fernando fell to 0-2 with a 53-51 loss to University at San Fernando.
Stephens made six three-pointers, including three in a row in the second quarter, as San Fernando fought back from a 13-7 first-quarter deficit.
Calabasas 59, Newbury Park 58--Newbury Park scored five unanswered points in the final 30 seconds but could not catch host Calabasas in the nonleague game.
Jon Drezner scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Calabasas (2-3) and teammate Howie Gaynor added 18.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Thousand Oaks 51, Redondo 45--Lina Mascarenas scored 14 points to lead the Lancers in the second round of the Beverly Hills tournament.
Kris Pederson added 12 points for Thousand Oaks (4-0).
