WASHINGTON — A record 22 million travelers are expected to fly on U.S. airlines during the holiday season, the Air Transport Assn. estimated today.
The association, an industry group representing the carriers, said airlines will add extra flights during this period to the 18,000 flights operated on an average day. Holiday travel will be spread over 17 days, from Dec. 18 through Jan. 3. Last year, the airlines carried 21 million passengers during this period.
