Shot Down Sandinista Helicopter, Contras Say

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — U.S.-backed Nicaraguan rebels said Wednesday that they shot down a Soviet-built helicopter in fighting earlier this month.
A Contra spokeswoman said in Honduras that rebel units used a U.S.-supplied Redeye anti-aircraft missile on Dec. 2 to down a Soviet-built MI-24 helicopter gunship near the city of Ubu, about 100 miles northeast of the capital, killing all aboard.
