Israel Jets in Mock Raids on Lebanon

SIDON, Lebanon — Israeli warplanes carried out mock raids on Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, evading anti-aircraft missiles and gunfire, residents said.
They said eight Israeli jets buzzed Sidon and two refugee camps east of the city for 30 minutes, drawing fire from anti-aircraft batteries and shoulder-fired SAM-7 missiles.
The planes launched thermal balloons as missile decoys and no aircraft were reported hit.
Residents have said they expect an air strike in revenge for the killing of six Israeli soldiers by a Palestinian guerrilla, who flew a hang-glider into northern Israel on Nov. 25.
