All-Southeast : 2 High Schools Each Get 4 on Times’ Team

Montebello High School, the Whitmont League champions who finished with a 12-1 record, and Bell Gardens each placed four players on The Times’ 1987 All-Southeast team.
From Montebello’s Whitmont League champions are running back Adan Avina, who led area scorers with 126 points; quarterback Larry Razo, guard Andrew Godinez and linebacker Mike Heithcock.
Bell Gardens also placed four players--tight end George Garibay, offensive tackle Rudy Torres and defensive backs Santos Barrientos and Joe Munoz.
The rest of the offensive team: Darius Turner, Warren running back; Rene Granados of Cantwell and Joe Mills of Whittier, wide receivers; tackle Gabe Mills of St. John Bosco; guard Art Salas of El Rancho and center Jerrod Andrade of Cantwell.
The kicker is Ron Rico of La Mirada.
The rest of the defensive team: Linemen Steve Davis of Warren, Gary Espinosa of Whittier Christian, John Finau of Pius X and Melvin Johnson of Lynwood; linebackers Martin Hammonds of Artesia and Hector Ruelas of South Gate, and backs Jaime Fields of Lynwood and Joel Gutierrez of Huntington Park.
