Wearing only a blue trench coat and a straw hat, an unidentified man lunged with a sword-like object at two police officers and was shot in the left shoulder early Tuesday, the San Diego Police Department reported.
The man was listed in critical condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, suffering from three gunshot wounds, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police responded to a call shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday reporting that a man, not fully attired, was acting strangely in a phone booth in the 4100 block of National Avenue. When the officers stepped from their car, the man went into a karate pose and charged toward them, despite warnings to halt, police said.
