First whales--Two gray whales were spotted recently off the coast at Dana Point, the first seen this year in the mammals’ annual 6,000-mile migration from the Arctic to the warm lagoons of Baja California.
The number of whales migrating off the local coast will increase steadily, peaking in February. Most commercial whale watch trips begin in January and continue through March.
