Cleveland 17, Banning 14--On fourth and one with 48 seconds left, Cleveland quarterback Jamie Grossman threw a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Chaka Milby to give the Cavaliers the upset in the first-round 4-A playoff game.
Banning (6-4) trailed, 7-6, at halftime, but took the lead early in the third quarter as fullback Charlie Clark scored on a 12-yard run to cap an eight-play, 55-yard drive. Kenneth Williams then ran for a two-point conversion.
Frank Diana cut Banning’s lead to 14-10 with a 27-yard field goal on the second play of the fourth quarter. Diana had missed an extra point during a 28-27 regular-season loss to the Pilots.
Cleveland (5-5) opened the scoring as fullback Denver Ball scored on a two-yard run on the first Cavalier possession, eight plays after Milby, playing linebacker, recovered a Sean Campbell fumble at the Banning 29.
