Lori Zeno, with 27 kills, led fifth-ranked UCLA to a 15-12, 11-15, 15-11, 15-2 victory over 19th-ranked California Friday night in the first round of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at UCLA’s John Wooden Center.
The victory moved the Bruins (28-9) into the West Regional semifinals, probably at Stanford Dec. 11-12. They will meet the winner of the BYU-Pepperdine match being played tonight at Provo, Utah. Stanford will face Colorado State in the other West Regional semifinal.
“We wanted a tough match,” UCLA Coach Andy Banachowski said. “But we got one much tougher than we wanted.”
