Two Salvadorans were arrested at 1 p.m. Thursday in East San Diego after they allegedly attempted to set a woman on fire, San Diego Fire Department officials reported Friday.
Fire Department Capt. Ron Cervantes said 48-year-old Sandra Chance was trying to help a woman who was being assaulted by two men outside her apartment when the men threw lighter fluid on Chance.
Metro Arson Strike Team members called to the scene arrested Jorge E. Angel, 31, and Luis Rodriques, 23, for assault and attempted arson, Cervantes said. Matches were found in their possession, but they had not been ignited, he said.
The assault victim suffered bruises but was not seriously injured. She was identified as Laura Targus, 28, a resident of the apartment complex, Cervantes said.
