An 85-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries and her husband was seriously hurt Friday morning when they were struck by a car as they crossed a street in Dana Point, California Highway Patrol officers said.
Laura Munro died at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo about four hours after the 9:50 a.m. accident, hospital spokeswoman Jan Walker said. Elmer E. Munro, 87, was in fair condition with head injuries and fractures of both legs, Walker said.
CHP spokesman Ken Daily said the two were walking across Selva Road at Granada Drive, not far from their home, when they were hit by a car.
Daily said Officer Jim Smith, who investigated the accident, will ask the district attorney’s office to file charges of involuntary manslaughter against the driver, who was not identified. Smith said there was no explanation for the accident other than that the driver didn’t see the couple.
