Nobel-Winning Chemist Luis F. Leloir Dies at 81

BUENOS AIRES — Argentine scientist Luis Federico Leloir, who received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1970, died today of a heart attack, his family said. He was 81.

Leloir received the award for his contribution to the discovery of sugar nucleotides and their role in biosynthesis of carbohydrates. He was one of five Argentines who have been awarded Nobel prizes.
