AUTOMOBILES, FREEWAYS, DRIVERS : How many cars are there in Orange County?

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, 1,376,382 cars, 324,260 trucks, 60,613 motorcycles and 124,409 trailers were registered in the county in 1986, for a total of 1,885,664 vehicles. Statewide, 22,584,513 vehicles were registered in the same period.
According to Caltrans, there are 135 miles of freeway in Orange County, 503 miles in Los Angeles County, 86 miles in Ventura County.
Caltrans estimates that the cost of constructing a new four-lane freeway is $110 million per mile.
The number of licensed drivers as of Dec. 31, 1986 (to the nearest hundred):
LA County 5,281,000 Orange County 1,626,100 San Diego 1,493,300 Riverside 569,900
