A Florida bar manager accused of fatally beating jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius is being charged with second-degree murder. Prosecutors decided to file a direct charge against Luc Havan, 25, without presenting the case to a grand jury. Havan already had been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly beating Pastorius outside the Wilton Manors nightclub that Havan managed. Pastorius, 35, died Sept. 21. He once was considered by some music critics to have been one of the finest jazz bass guitarists in the world, but his reputation became tarnished after frequent bouts with alcoholism.
