A 70-year-old school crossing guard died Monday after he was hit by a car as he stood on a Woodland Hills sidewalk, Los Angeles police said.
Anthony Panico of Granada Hills died at Northridge Hospital Medical Center four hours after the 8 a.m. accident at Serrania Avenue and Avenue San Luis near Serrania Avenue Elementary School, Officer Phil Mulvihill said.
Mulvihill said Leslie Hoffman, 52, of Woodland Hills was driving northbound on Serrania Avenue when he suddenly swerved to avoid hitting a car pulling away from the curb. Hoffman lost control of his car and hit a curb and tree before striking Panico, Mulvihill said.
No charge had been filed in the accident.
