Nick Richardson, a junior running back at Los Alamitos, knows what to do when his line gives him a hole. He rushed for 298 yards in 35 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Griffins’ 21-6 victory over Narbonne Thursday night. He has rushed for more than 100 yards in four of five games this season.
So here’s what I learned.
Los Alamitos has an outstanding defense and deserves to be the co-favorite with Edison for the Sunset League title. The Griffins’ offensive line can block, and Richardson knows what to do with the ball. Don’t expect anything less than overtime when Edison and Los Alamitos meet down the road.
Narbonne has a long ways to go. It’s struggling trying to run the ball, and that’s not good for a team that wants to pass. The line is not performing up to the high standard needed to succeed. If the Gauchos can make improvement in that area, they’ll still battle it out in the Marine League with Carson and San Pedro.
But Crenshaw right now remains far ahead of Narbonne and everyone else in the City Section. Whether that changes over the next five weeks is the big question.
