A handful of Southern California football standouts were named to the All-USA football team by USA Today on Wednesday.
St. Bonaventure defensive back/running back Patrick Hall, who recently guided the Seraphs to their second consecutive CIF Division III state bowl title, was named a first-team offensive selection, as was Santa Clara running back Cierre Wood (pictured). In addition, Cathedral running back/receiver Randall Carroll was named to the first team.
Hall played an instrumental role in securing both of St. Bonaventure’s bowl runs and the Notre Dame-bound Wood rushed for 1,622 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Corona Centennial linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who will be joining Hall at USC next fall, was selected to the second team. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound running-back stopper finished the season with 159 tackles and two sacks as the Huskies secured the CIF Division I state bowl title. L.A. Jordan quarterback/defensive end James Boyd and Dominguez linebacker Marquis Simmons were also named to the second team.
Here are some highlights of Burfict in action:
