It just wasn’t meant to be.
The Cathedral City boys’ basketball team was 28 minutes from the program’s first undefeated regular season, playing a Palm Springs team it had defeated by 16 points three weeks ago.
Things looked even better when the Lions jumped to a 15-point first-quarter lead, but they played like Jean Van de Velde down the stretch and lost by the same margin, 87-72.
Not only did Cathedral City lose out on its undefeated season, it has to share the Desert Valley League title with Palm Springs.
