Van Nuys Coach Charles White admitted his team might have been looking ahead to Wednesday’s showdown with North Hollywood. And it almost cost the Wolves Friday night.

Thanks to a monster performance by Victor Rudd, who had 32 points, Van Nuys escaped with a 69-65 victory over visiting Grant in Sunset Six League play.

Van Nuys (11-15, 6-2) is the last team that can mathematically catch North Hollywood.

‘We’re confident we can compete with anybody,’ White said. ‘And with the group we have now, we can score quickly and in bunches.’
